GUITAR AND SHE SINGS COUNTRY...
But, it's not the Australian accent that you notice, it's the fresh,
exciting and unique presence weaved with rich vocals, emotional sounds and
youthful appeal that surrounds the exterior of this vigourous and talented
23yr old, who has everything to offer in the Music Industry, both
nationally and internationally.
Megan Laurie is driven. "I grew up touring Australia, following the
Country Music circuit. While my friends were playing sports and partying,
I was at home learning lyrics, charting and writing songs, practising on
my guitar and honing my vocal skills. Music has always given me an outlet
to express my thoughts and emotions" says Megan.
The Australian industry undoubtedly agress with Megan's promising talent
crowning her 3 consecutive Champion of Champions titles; Victoria, South
Australian and Queensland. Megan is the only person to ever win the
trifecta.
In 2004, Megan moved to America to learn the ins and outs of the Music
Business at South Plains College in Levelland Texas, where some of
American's most famous Country Music Artists jump started their careers;
Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, Heath Wright of Richocet, LeAnn
Womack, Matt Jenkins and Australia's own Jedd Hughes to name a few. "South
Plains College gave me the opportunity to study under the guidance of some
of the most respected tutors in the Music Industry." While at South Plains
College, the faculty have awarded Megan "Outstanding Female Songwriter of
the Year 03-04 & 04-05", "Female Country/Swing Vocalist of the Year 03-04
& 04-05", "Female Bluegrass Vocalist of the year 04-05", "Female
Country/Swing Instrumentalist of the Year 04-05" and "Female Entertainer
of the Year 04-05". Megan has also been a member of the "Thursday Nite
Live" television program aired live each month, giving Megan valuable
exposure throughout the Hockley County area.
"It is easy to forget that Megan Laurie is just in her twenties. Her
musical maturity and positive approach are beyond her years" says Scott
Faris, Director of Guitar Studies at South Plains College.
Megan's debut record is on Fillee Music Label. Not only did Megan write 10
of the 12 songs, she also played some of the instrumentation and
co-produced the album.
"I am who I am. I do what I do. I work hard, search for new roads and set
the scene for my own individual style."
It looks like Megan Laurie is on the right road...
